Sibfords Society

The Sibfords Society began in 1993 and meetings are held nine times each year. These include external visits during the summer, and talks of historical interest which are held in the Village Hall. We concentrate mainly on the local area but are occasionally happy to invite speakers from further afield. We have an archive room where we preserve evidence for future generations. Free tea, coffee and biscuits are served at all the meetings. Programme for 2019: 21 February - Social evening. 21 March - AGM followed by film Hidden Villages (narrated by Penelope Keith). 18 April - The Battle of Edgehill, with Stephen Barker. 16 May - Queen Victoria - a Life in Portraits, with Gill White. June - Coach trip (TBA) 18 July - Tour of Edgehill. battlefield, with Stephen Barker. July - A walk around the Sibfords to watch the swifts, with Chris Mason. 9 September - Sulgrave Manor and the Washington family, with Martin Sirot Smith. 17 October - The Barn Well Hill Railway, with Colin Hill. 21 November - The Broughton Hoard, with Keith Westcott. Indoor Bowls

We are a small group who play regularly in the Village Hall from September through to June The game is Short Mat Indoor Bowls and is played using full-sized bowls on a mat 45ft long by 6ft wide. We have two mats, which can be used simultaneously, side by side. The game can be played over a number of ends, as singles, pairs, triples or fours There are two groups - one plays on Thursday afternoons (2pm), the other on Wednesday evenings (7.45pm). The emphasis is on a friendly, casual and enjoyable sport. Uniform is not required for our club meetings, the ONLY stipulation we make is that you must wear flat-soled footwear (no treads). We have many sets of bowls available
